A life story from the bookletLIFE STORY: I was coaching a 13 year old travel baseball team and lost a few players. So, I did what most coaches do and advertised a try-out. I had numerous players come to the try-out and I talked with each family after. One young man wanted to make the team so badly that he brought a resume for me to look over. He was a year younger than the other boys and not as talented but his enthusiasm made up for it. I explained, to him and the family, that by being younger and not quite at the talent level of the other boys he wasn’t going to get a lot of playing time. His dad, (a very wise man and encourager to his son), said, “We know he won’t play much, but I want him around young men like these so he can see how hard they’ve worked to get here.” Well, what could I say? The young man played well when he got the opportunity and the other boys enjoyed having him around so much so that they would go to his Little League games. That is what parenting is all about. Putting your child in a relaxed position to learn all they can. I am so thankful for the example this couple gave to the other twelve families on the team.
